THE UNEXPECTED AND THE UNFORGETTABLE
11 04 2010I just received a book called “Disassembled Detroit in the mail the other day”. I ordered it months ago, and quite frankly, I forgot it was coming. Upon opening the package I was once again haunted by what lay in my hands. Images of an unmistakably and utterly devastated city, once burgeoning-now nearly abandoned. A city left hanging silently over a path on which no step was taken. A city which someday may be restored, the clocks may be set back, the walls may be rebuilt, and the city may flourish again….only time will tell.

Exactly a year ago I wrote this after being profoundly and soberly awakened to the tragedy that is Detroit.
May I share it with you again:
“Somewhere in America
pride had transcended poverty then it lost its lead
snow clothed houses had shed its winter coat as the seasons changed
laughter lived on a doorstep, and rarely went to sleep
the wind whispered with no one to hear it
walls remember countless stories.
Somewhere in America
the curtains of life went missing
a parade of perception became apparent
lust has lost its luster, but beauty will never be forgotten.”
